Audition Requirements and Preparation

We are so excited that you want to audition for TeSA! It’s never too early to start preparing. The first step is getting familiar with the audition process. Auditions are held in person on the TeSA campus (6025 Village Pkwy, Edgecliff Village, 76134).

Auditions for the 26-27 school year will occur in person and scored using the provided rubrics.

Grades K-2

Students will participate in an arts/creativity workshop that includes dance, music, theatre, and visual arts activities. They will participate with other students their age in small groups.

They should:
  • bring 3 art/craft pieces with them for the Visual Arts portion of the audition.
  • wear dance attire and/or clothes they can move in and dance shoes if they have them. If they do not have dance shoes they may complete the dance portion of the audition in bare feet.
  • They do not need to prepare anything in advance for the music or theatre portions of the audition.

Grades 3-5

Students will choose 2 areas to audition in: Dance, Music, Theatre, or Visual Arts. If they are auditioning in…

Dance, they should wear dance clothes or clothes they can move in and dance shoes if they have them. If they do not have dance shoes they will perform the dance audition in bare feet.

Music, they should prepare a song to sing for their audition. We recommend preparing a short 30-60 second choral piece, hymn, folk song, or musical theatre song (they do not have to sing the entire song). They will need to perform the piece a capella. If you are not sure what to choose, please use one of the songs we’ve provided here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1sVahZkp8I0wkARnXKEbVKlNh3J5Hi-Vi?usp=drive_link

Theatre, they should choose one of the monologues provided to memorize and perform at the audition: https://drive.google.com/file/d/12lCmszklcZtsjG3234U7MQgpvruv96Xu/view?usp=drive_link

Visual Arts, they should bring with them 3 art/craft pieces to show. They will also be given an art activity to work on during the audition. All materials will be provided for the activity.

Scores

Students must meet a minimum required score for acceptance. Applicants will not receive audition scores, feedback, or copies of their scoresheets. Those who receive adequate scores will either be offered admission to TeSA or be placed on the waitlist until an opening becomes available. Review the following videos* and documents and remember to contact us at admission@mytesa.org if you have questions. These items are for reference only and may change from year to year.

*Please note that we have recently transitioned from video auditions to in-person auditions for TeSA. The videos below were previously used for the video audition process, but they still provide a helpful overview of what will be expected from students during the in-person audition. While you do not need to create a new video, we encourage you to watch them with your student so they can become familiar with the audition activities and expectations.
