Singing Girls of Texas is a professional-level young women’s choir program with three core ensembles and two community choirs.
Singing Girls of Texas (SGT) was founded in 2001 as a sister organization to the Grammy award-winning Texas Boys Choir.
Students in the Young Women’s Ensemble (YWE) or the Tour Choir attend school at the Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts (FWAFA). Girls wishing to join SGT will begin their training with the Community Girls Choir Preparatory (Kindergarten through 3rd grade). This continues with the Community Girls Choir (3rd grade through 6th grade).
Once a girl is accepted into FWAFA, she can audition for SGT Training beginning in 7th grade. As girls grow in their musicianship and confidence, they’re able to move through the organization by participating in the Young Women’s Ensemble (YWE), or by auditioning for the Tour Choir during 9th grade. YWE is an attractive option for those wishing to continue their choir training while also pursuing other artistic disciplines. The Tour Choir is an advanced performance-based ensemble that participates in high-quality concerts, as well as regional, national, and international tours.
SGT has received accolades from the University Interscholastic League, the National American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Teachers of Singing, and are currently invited to participate at the World Choir Games in Gangneung, South Korea in July 2022.
Your generous support allows us to provide these unique musical opportunities for students. We hope you will join us as a supporting member of Singing Girls of Texas.
SGT was a group where I always felt at home and comfortable expressing myself. Through SGT I learned how important sisterhood is and I will carry that with me for the rest of my life.
