Singing Girls of Texas Choir

For 25 years, the Singing Girls of Texas has been a staple of the North Texas choral scene.

Established in 2001 with the opening of the Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts, the girls choir maintains a robust performance schedule throughout Dallas-Fort Worth, striving to elevate the prestige of Treble choirs wherever they go.

SGT serves over 100 young musicians in seventh through twelfth grade, providing daily instruction in vocal technique, music theory, sight-reading, and music history.

SGT’s top ensemble, SGT Tour Choir, annually tours throughout the United States and abroad. Past international trips have taken the choir to Canada, Austria, Italy, Greece, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland. Most recently, they toured the Pacific Northwest and made appearances in San Francisco, Portland, Salem, and Vancouver, Canada.

Alumnae of the program have gone on to have highly successful careers in the fields of opera and musical theater, earning professional engagements with the Metropolitan Opera, LA Opera, and Seattle Opera, as well as being cast in the Broadway productions of Cats, Be More Chill, The Waitress, and Hamilton.

SGT TOUR CHOIR

Membership in SGT Tour Choir is open to 9th through 12th graders who demonstrate exceptional vocal ability and are adept at music theory and music literacy. Singers in this ensemble strive for a collegiate level of artistic achievement and are expected to maintain academic excellence alongside their musical pursuits. Tour choir maintains a busy performance schedule throughout the year, including an annual tour either domestically or internationally.

SGT Tour Choir has been nationally recognized for their commitment to artistic excellence, passionate performance, and incredible family dynamic. Members of SGT Tour Choir have been participants of the TMEA All-State Mixed and Treble Honor Choirs, ACDA National Honor Choirs, Southwestern ACDA Honor Choirs, and State and District Solo and Ensemble Contest.

SGT CHAMBER CHOIR

Membership in SGT Chamber Choir is open to 9th through 12th graders. Singers in this ensemble are working at a high level of artistic achievement and are expected to maintain academic excellence alongside their musical pursuits. In SGT Chamber Choir, members are training to become passionate musicians with a lifelong love of the choral art, build friendships that last a lifetime, and learn musical and life skills to support them in their journey at FWAFA and beyond.

Members of SGT Chamber Choir will have the opportunity to audition for the TMEA All-State Honor Choirs as well as ACDA National and Regional Honor Choirs and will participate in all major SGT and FWAFA choir concerts throughout the year.

SGT CADET CHOIR

SGT Cadet Choir is our intermediate level ensemble for 7th and 8th graders. Singers in this ensemble are developing their music literacy and theory skills while still striving for a high level of artistic achievement. In SGT Cadet Choir, members are training to become passionate musicians with a lifelong love of the choral art, build friendships that last a lifetime, and learn musical and life skills to support them in their journey at FWAFA and beyond.

Members of SGT Cadet Choir will have the opportunity to audition for the Region 30 Middle School Honor Choir as well as ACDA National and Regional Honor Choirs and will participate in all major SGT and FWAFA choir concerts throughout the year.

SGT TRAINING CHOIR

SGT Training Choir is our advanced level ensemble for 7th and 8th graders. Singers in this ensemble already demonstrate strong music literacy and theory skills. In SGT Training Choir, members are training to become passionate musicians with a lifelong love of the choral art, build friendships that last a lifetime, and learn musical and life skills to support them in their journey at FWAFA and beyond.

Members of SGT Training Choir are required to audition for the Region 30 Middle School Honor Choir and have the option to audition for ACDA National and Regional Honor Choirs. They also participate in all major SGT and FWAFA choir concerts throughout the year.

Being in Singing Girls of Texas meant I got to live a dream. I made music with my friends around me everyday for 6 years straight. I learned to love languages and the challenges of being a singer. My love for SGT lead me to a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from Texas Wesleyan University in 2019. I have performed with the Fort Worth Opera and teach voice and piano lessons in Mansfield. I am currently looking for a full time teaching job because of how much I know having music in ones life can change a person for the better.
