What grades does FWAFA serve?

Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts serves students in grades 3–12 with rigorous academics and daily fine-arts training in dance, music, theatre, and visual art.

Is FWAFA tuition-free?

Yes. FWAFA is a tuition-free public charter school operated by Texas Center for Arts + Academics. There are no tuition fees, registration fees, or application fees.

Do I have to audition for FWAFA?

Yes. All applicants complete an audition in their chosen arts area (dance, music, theatre, or visual art). Auditions assess artistic potential and commitment to arts education rather than existing professional-level skills.

Can my child participate in Texas Boys Choir or Singing Girls of Texas?

Texas Boys Choir and Singing Girls of Texas are premier ensembles exclusively for enrolled FWAFA students. Once accepted to FWAFA, students may audition for these choirs. Texas Boys Choir accepts boys in grades 3-12. Singing Girls of Texas accepts girls beginning in 7th grade.

What academic curriculum does FWAFA follow?

FWAFA follows the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards and offers a college-preparatory curriculum including Advanced Placement (AP) courses, dual-credit opportunities with local universities, and honors-level classes. FWAFA maintains a 100% college acceptance rate.

Important Dates

Open Enrollment for 2026-2027 School Year begins January 12, 2026 and ends February 10, 2026. Complete an online application during Open Enrollment to schedule your audition for the 2026-2027 school year.

Auditions will be held in February, with most auditions occurring on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 and/or Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Applications for the 2026-2027 school year will open on January 12, 2026 at apply.artsacademics.org

Audition results will be shared with all open enrollment applicants no later than March 6, 2026.

Audition Requirements and Preparation

3rd -6th Grade
Students audition in TWO of the art disciplines.

7th -8th Grade
Students must audition in ONE of the art disciplines. Students have the option to audition in a SECOND area, and the higher score will be used to determine admission. Please note: a second audition is NOT REQUIRED.

9th -12th Grade
Students audition in ONE of the art disciplines.
Please note: a second audition is not allowed for grades 9-12.

Scoring

Students must meet a minimum required score for acceptance.
Applicants will not receive audition scores, feedback, or copies of their scoresheets.
Those who receive adequate scores will either be offered admission to FWAFA or be placed on the waitlist until an opening becomes available.
Waitlists are Active through January 2027 for the 26-27 school year.
Once a student has been admitted to FWAFA, they will be given the opportunity to audition for our premier performing groups (i.e. Children’s Choir of Texas, Singing Girls of Texas, Texas Boys Choir, Academy Dance Company, Academy Dance Company Trainees, Academy Musical Theatre Company, etc.)
